tree climbing

Here's Tim in the throes of his first ever tree climb. He'd never before come across one with branches so low to the ground, and I'm honestly not sure if he'd ever seen another kid climbing a tree (maybe on TV..?) so as far as he's concerned, he invented the sport. I think he delighted himself with his own audacity!

eggs for decorating

From these photos, it might not be clear that Tim actually took quite an active part in decorating these eggs.  But the parts where he was involved were NOT the parts when I took out my camera - my hands were already full!  Tim was actually pretty good at handling the boiled eggs and dropping them carefully into the dye.  He was also in charge of deciding how much dye went in for each colour. I think he did well!

xmas trainset

The photos look sweet, but I tell you, that train set is trouble!  If he wants to play trains, there's no dissuading him - even if it's bathtime, or teatime, or even and especially bedtime.

new year's eve

Hayden and I took Tim down to the beach to see the sun set on 2012, and at first I was bummed cos it looked like a bit of a fizzer (not the spectacular sunset I had been hoping for).  Then I looked around a bit, and I realised that this new year's eve was everything I wanted it to be.  It was the quietest and calmest moment at the end of a long hot day.  The locals were out fishing as usual - no big deal - and as we stood there a bunch of dolphins swam by.  Nice.

Here he is!

Me and Timothy, originally uploaded by &Naomi.

Our baby Timothy Sage arrived at 4:44pm on Tuesday 25 January.

And just so you know, he's perfect in every way.

sun down

Collie River III

Our lease on the River House is up, and unfortunately we don't have an option to renew as the people who truly own this place are coming back to live here. We can't begrudge them that.

Hayden and Lily and I are moving just down the road to a smaller, simpler dwelling. We will still be near the river, but it will no longer be in daily sight. Will we miss it? Or make more of an effort to stay in touch?

time for a new picture

Anniversary Lunch at Voyager_2792

To celebrate our second wedding anniversary a couple of weeks ago, Hayden and I lunched at the glorious Voyager Estate Winery in Margaret River. As you can see in the picture, it was a glorious sunny day, even though the colours of the leaves are already turning.

It turned out to be a pretty wonderful day!

Christmas lights

Christmas lights, originally uploaded by &Naomi.

I know, it really is time for these to come down. But for the last couple of years I've felt motivated to document, somehow, the arty-crafty effort I put into Christmas. So that's what I'm doing here. Decorations, the Tree and other crafty efforts are things about which I have strong, and quite particular feelings come over me. Every year. Even this year, when I felt quite low and lonely in the lead-up to Christmas, I still felt motivated to make a bit of special effort.

What I was going for was pretty understated and, I was hoping, arty. I was happy with the way the lights casually strung themselves along our longest window pane.
